GOVERNING BODY

The International Canoe Federation (ICF) is the global governing body for canoeing, responsible for setting official rules and overseeing international competitions across all disciplines, including slalom, sprint, marathon, paracanoe, wildwater, and more. Founded in 1946 and based in Lausanne, Switzerland, the ICF organises major events such as the Canoe World Championships, World Cup series, and works closely with the International Olympic Committee to manage canoeing events at the Olympic and Paralympic Games. It also plays an active role in the global promotion of the sport, technical development, and inclusivity.

Canoe Europe is the official continental body for canoeing, operating under the International Canoe Federation (ICF). It oversees and promotes the sport across Europe, coordinating high-level competitions in all disciplines including sprint, slalom, marathon, paracanoe, wildwater, and canoe polo. Beyond event organisation, Canoe Europe plays a key role in athlete development, technical education, and fostering collaboration among national federations. With a strong commitment to shared European values, inclusion, and sporting excellence, it works to strengthen the canoeing community through innovation, unity, and long-term vision.
