European Games without athletes from Russia and Belarus
European Games Krakow – Malopolska 2023 will begin in Krakow on June 21. The Organising Committee would like to remind you that at the end of last year, the European Olympic Committees (EOC), and the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOl) decided to exclude athletes from Russia and Belarus from the competition.
Our position remains unchanged. It is in accordance with the guidelines of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism and the Polish Olympic Committee. We support the position of the Ukrainian authorities opposing the admission of Russians and Belarusians to sports competition, at least until the bloody war caused by Russia is over.
“There will be no athletes representing the Russian Federation and Belarus at the European Games in Krakow. We will not allow this to happen regardless of the diplomatic efforts that are currently taking place,” stressed the President of the European Games Organising Committee, Dr. Marcin Nowak.
The European Games will begin on June 21 at the Henryk Reyman Municipal Stadium in Krakow. The event will last until July 2. It is estimated that 7,000 athletes from 48 countries will participate. They will compete in 29 disciplines. 19 sports will be held as Olympic qualifiers for Paris 2024.
