Men’s individual ski jumping competition on the Średnia Krokiew jumping hill
Ski jumpers from Austria dominated the individual competition on the Średnia Krokiew in Zakopane. The competition on the so-called normal hill on plastic matting, as part of the III European Games is behind us. The winner was Daniel Tschofenig of Austria with jumps of 104 and 104.5 meters, scoring a total of 270.3 points. He was ahead of his compatriot Jan Hoerle, who had a slightly weaker jump in the first competition round of 101 meters, and that’s what put him in second place, despite a jump of 104.5 meters in the second round. Third place went to Switzerland’s Gregor Deschwander scoring a total of 258 points.
The best of the Poles, Piotr Zyla, took seventh place with jumps of: 96.5 and as high as 106.5 meters, scoring a total of 249.5 points. The next places of the Poles are: 10 Dawid Kubacki, 22 Kamil Stoch and 27 Kacper Juroszek.
Today’s men’s individual jumping competition, postponed from yesterday, finally took place under decent weather conditions. Light sun and weak wind caused the athletes to reach long distances improving even the record of the Średnia Krokiew.
In the afternoon, we will have the mixed team competition. The Polish Ski Association announced that Anna Twardosz, Dawid Kubacki, Nicole Konderla and Piotr Zyla will take part. Two-person teams of men and women will compete against each other. A trial round is scheduled for 4:30 pm, and at 5:30 pm the first competition round will begin.
