42nd Wawel Cup
42nd Wawel Cup
Orienteering is a discipline that originated in Sweden in the 19th century. Initially, it was a training tool in the military. However, already in the 20th century the discipline became popular among civilians. Orienteering in Poland appeared in the 1970s, and the popularization of the discipline is due to the Polish Tourist and Sightseeing Society (PTTK).
There are more than 1,000 registered runners in Poland, who take part in competitions in the country but also represent Poland internationally – in the World and European Championships. Runners in this discipline do not move without a map and compass. The goal of the run is to cover the route in the shortest possible time, conquering the checkpoints marked on the map. Runners, based on the map, can freely choose the route between the points.

Wawel Cup is an orienteering competition already organized for the 42nd time by the Wawel Military Sports Club. During the five-day event, competitors from more than a dozen countries will compete in various age categories (from the family category to seniors over 80). The entire competition will consist of – a sprint run held in Krakow’s Kazimierz district, middle-distance runs in Podgórze and Bronaczowa forest, and the grand finale in Wolski Forest. The event will last from 28.06.2023 to 02.07.2023.
The Wawel Cup will also feature a Precision Orientation competition dedicated primarily to people with disabilities.
This year’s event will also be held under the banner of an accompanying event to the Third European Games being held in Krakow and Malopolska. This is another excellent opportunity for sports integration. We hope that this year’s event will provide all participants with an unforgettable experience!
