First there was an incredible fight and then great joy. The Italian national team dominated the athletics competition at the European Games Krakow-Malopolska 2023 while winning the European team championships title.

The Italians at the Silesian Stadium in Chorzów were unstoppable. The Italian representatives won a total of seven gold medals, five silver, three bronze. As a result, they won the country’s first ever European top division team title. Not surprisingly, at the end of the competition, Italy’s captain Gianmarco Tamberi flew into the air.

In an interview with Rzeczpospolita, the Italian high jumper says how important the medal of the European Games Krakow-Malopolska 2023 is for him.

“Our high level was visible for example at the European Games in Krakow, when we won the European Cup for the first time. As team captain, I am very proud of that,” said Tamberi.

Shortly after the Games, Tamberi competed in Poland once again, this time as part of the Diamond League Myths. He returned to his home country again with great memories.

“I love performing in Poland – the public is familiar with athletics, they know how to cheer on athletes. I even happened to be on holiday here. I feel positive vibes before the world championships,” she says.

On the occasion of the world championships in Budapest, Tamberi is aiming for a gold medal.
