Wisla returns to the Municipal Stadium. “The new pitch looks amazing”
On Saturday, Wisla Kraków will play its first match of the season at the Municipal Stadium in Krakow. Thanks to the Krakow-Malopolska European Games 2023, the stadium has been given a new shine and the players will play on new turf.
During the Krakow-Malopolska European Games 2023, two unforgettable events – the Opening Ceremony and the Closing Ceremony – took place at the Municipal Stadium in Krakow. Outstanding athletes from all over Europe met on the pitch of the stadium, and their parade was part of a major cultural and sporting event.
In the following days, rugby players ruled the stadium – a rugby 7 tournament was held at the venue.
In preparation for the Games, the stadium underwent a major refurbishment. After the Games, however, the pitch was replaced. On Saturday, it will be tested for the first time by Wisła footballers, who will face Stala Rzeszów at 18:00. The match will have a special ambience, as it will be at the same time a farewell to Jakub Błaszczykowski.
“We are making our debut with the new pitch, which looks amazing. We hope it will help us not only during Saturday’s match, but also in achieving the most important goal, which is promotion to the Ekstraklasa – said Wisła president Jarosław Królewski.
The director of the Sports Infrastructure Management Board (ZIS), Krzysztof Kowal, is satisfied with the effects of the work.
“I am glad that we have a new pitch and a modernised stadium. I wish Wisła that next year at this time we will inaugurate the season in Ekstraklasa, and may the next step be European cups – emphasised the director of ZIS.
