Past weekend in Istanbul the 52nd General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) took place. During the event, the opportunity to summarize the European Games Krakow-Malopolska 2023 was given to the Marshal of the Malopolska Region Witold Kozlowski, who on this occasion presented the title of Honorary Citizen of the Malopolska Region to EOC President Spyros Capralos.

On the second day of the event, a delegation from Małopolska headed by Marshal Witold Kozłowski handed over the Award of the Małopolska Platinum Medal Polonia Minor to the EOC as an expression of gratitude for its support of the organizational process of the 3rd European Games in Krakow and Małopolska – the largest sports event in the history of Poland. The award was also a way to say “thank you” for propagating the idea of the Games in Europe and promoting Małopolska on the international forum.

In addition, Marshal Witold Kozlowski, together with provincial councilor Rafał Kosowski, presented the title of Honorary Citizen of the Małopolska Region to EOC President Spyros Capralos. Earlier, during the Second European Congress of Sport and Tourism in Zakopane, the honor was awarded – for the first time in the region’s history – to Andrzej Kraśnicki, long-time president of the Polish Olympic Committee, and Hasan Arat, chairman of the coordination commission for the European Games on behalf of the EOC.

-The invitation to the General Assembly of the Association of European Olympic Committees in Istanbul is a great honor and privilege for the entire delegation from Malopolska. Thank you, Mr. President – said Marshal Witold Kozlowski in a speech.

-Poland, with the organization of many international sports events and the biggest one – the 3rd European Games – has proven that it is ready to take on even greater challenges. Therefore, I stand before you today asking you to support our efforts in the difficult and complicated process of making decision by the International Olympic Committee. The 2036 Summer Olympic Games, and by extension the Paralympic Summer Games, would be the first in our country’s history. We are ready for it! – emphasized Marshal Witold Kozlowski.

During the 52nd General Assembly of the Association of European Olympic Committees, the long-time president of the Polish Olympic Committee (PKOl) Andrzej Kraśnicki was awarded the Order of Merit of the EOC for his services to Polish sports and the European Olympic family.

It is worth noting that the EOC also awarded Piotr Nurowski Award, the long-time president of the PKOl. This time the statuette was received by two athletes: Darja Varfolomeev of Germany and Kuzey Tuncelli of Turkey.
