The Srednia Krokiew is (almost) ready for the European Games
Less than a month remains until the start of the Kraków-Malopolska 2023 European Games. At the Central Sports Centre – Olympic Preparation Centre in Zakopane, the final works are being carried out on the modernisation of the infrastructure needed to organise ski jumping on the igelite, as well as to accommodate the boxing teams.
In order to provide the athletes with the best possible conditions for competing, the organisers decided to improve the infrastructure. These are the next stages of modernisation in the Tatra resort. The total value of investments carried out in recent years at COS-OPO Zakopane amounts to more than 300 million zlotys.
To achieve the best results, athletes need comfortable conditions. We try to respond on an ongoing basis to the training and accommodation needs of the polish national teams. We are aware of how important it is for our athletes to participate in the European Games Krakow-Malopolska 2023, especially in front of their own audience. We believe that with the support of investments in, among others, COS-OPO Zakopane, our athletes will prepare even better,” says Kamil Bortniczuk, Minister of Sport and Tourism.
The Średnia Krokiew ski jumping hill, which will be the venue for part of the competitions during the Games, is being modernised. The facility will gain a grandstand with a capacity of just over 2,000 spectators. – Work is already in the final stage. The 1,500-seat grandstand will have chairs in the white and red colours. At the beginning of June, a mobile sector tailored to the ground will be erected to accommodate 500 people. Ultimately, this tribune will also be used for World Cup competitions at Wielka Krokiew,” says Sebastian Danikiewicz, director of COS – OPO in Zakopane.
The modernisation of training rooms for athletes is also coming to an end. All sports halls will be equipped with central air-conditioning. Training conditions for boxers will also be improved. The new equipment will benefit, among others, the polish national team. – We have ordered six certified rings which meet all the requirements of the international boxing federation. There will be two rings in each of the three training rooms, which will allow all participants to train in comfortable conditions,” emphasises Danikiewicz (pictured).
COS-OPO Zakopane will be the accommodation and training base for the majority of the boxing national teams (accommodating 270 people), who will compete in Nowy Targ from 23 June for European Games medals, as well as for Olympic qualification.
