PREVIEW FENCING DAY 2
The second day of fencing competition in Krakow’s Tauron Arena will feature two classes with a total of 154 fencers.
At 09:00, the women’s epee competition will begin, with 75 fencers fighting it out for the medals. The highest ranked fencer entering the competition is Anna KUN (HUN), the current world no. 4 who has won 4 World Cup medals this past season. She is also joined by her young colleague, 20-year old Eszter MUHARI (HUN). Also featured at the competition will be several fencers from the strong Estonian team, including world no. 10 Nelli DIFFERT and world no. 22 Erika KIRPU. The home nation certainly has a strong team lead by world no. 16 Renata KNAPIK-MIAZGA, who clinched a gold at the Budapest Grand Prix, and Martyna SWATOWSKA-WENGLARCZYK. Lastly, a fencer certainly looking to claim the title is the 2022 European Champion Vlada KHARKOVA from Ukraine.
One hour later, at 10:00, the men’s foil fencers are set to enter the stage. With the strongest French and Italian fencers absent, world no. 9 Alexander CHOUPENITCH(CZE) enters as the highest seeded fencer. The men’s foil class has strong competitors from many different countries. Carlos LLAVADOR(ESP), Daniel DOSA (HUN) and Marcus MEPSTEAD (GBR) have all won medals this year on the World Cup circuit. Also youngster Gergo SEMES, ranked as world no. 19, could put up a fight for the medals. Lastly, Andrzej RZADKOWSKI enters as the highest ranked home fencer, being ranked world no. 24 after a strong season.
The women’s epee event is set to being 09:00 on Monday the 26th, followed by the men’s foil event at 10:00.
