– For me, it’s something amazing that I can share a passion with my family – a unique story of a taekwondo athlete at the European Games in Krynica-Zdroj.

In Krynica-Zdroj, the European Games began with women’s taekwondo competition. Maysane Kamkasoumphou competed in the lowest weight category. She is a native of Paris, coming from an athletic family. Her coach is her dad, Ekvara Kamkasoumphou, and Leyna, her twin sister also competes in taekwondo.

 – For me, it’s something amazing that I can share a passion with my family. My mom and dad are supportive of me. We joke that someday my sister and I will compete for a gold medal. Our whole family lives sports. When we win, we win together, when we cry, the whole family cries,” Kamkasoumphou tells us.

“I know how many sacrifices I had to make to appear in Krynica”

She will fail at the Olympics. The young fighter dropped out in the 1/8 finals. Better than her turned out to be the representative of Great Britain, but as she herself admits, she does not break down and is grateful that she had the opportunity to test herself against the best athletes in Europe.

There is always sadness, the goal of an athlete is to win. I know how much preparation cost me, how many sacrifices I had to make to appear in Krynica, so despite the defeat I can appreciate this moment. This is an important moment for me, at the European Games I could meet the best athletes in the world,” the Parisian added.

With such determination and support from her family, a lot can be expected from only 18-year-old Kamkasoumphou. Who knows if another great career has not begun in Krynica?
