Canoe Sprint: Six sets of medals to be awarded on Friday
The third day of competition in Canoe Sprint at the Kraków-Małopolska 2023 European Games will feature heats in three disciplines over 500 metres in the morning session. In the afternoon the fans at Kryspinow Waterway will be able to cheer on their favourites for the medals, and enjoy another eight semifinals.
The day will start with the heats in women’s K1 500 metres which allows only the winners of the heats to qualify directly to the final. With the likes of Emma JORGENSEN (DEN), Spela PONOMARENKO JANIC (SLO), Milica NOVAKOVIC (SRB) who already qualified for the K1 200 final, and who will be trying to secure yet another final, the high quality of races is guaranteed.
Same as with the women’s heats, only the first place from the heats earns the paddlers the ticket to the men’s K1 500 metres final. The likes of some of the most decorated paddlers in longer distances, Fernando PIMENTA (POR) and Inigo PENA (ESP), then Adam VARGA (HUN), as well as Marko DRAGOSAVLJEVIC (SRB) who already won the bronze at this year’s Games (K2 500) and secured the final in K1 200 guarantees a lot of excitement.
The heats in C1 500 metres offer the competitors three direct places in the final. The Canadian single over 500 metres has been dominated for years by the Czech Martin FUKSA, who came to Krakow in a bid to win his ninth consecutive European gold medal!
The afternoon session promises a lot of excitement with six sets of medals to be awarded. The European champions will be crowned in women’s K2 and men’s K4, as well as the finals in C1 and K1 over 200 metres for in both gender categories.
After the medal awarding ceremonies, the spectators at Kryspinow Waterway will be able to cheer on their favourites in the singles semifinals over 500 metres as well as the semifinals of the mixed events.

European Games Krakow-Malopolska 2023 is the Europe’s biggest multidisciplinary sporting event in 2023. More than 7 thousand athletes are competing in 26 sports and 29 disciplines for 253 gold medals. More than that, European Games 2023 are part of the qualification process for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024 in 19 sports. This great celebration of sports started on 21st of June. The closing ceremony will take place on July 2nd.
