– I fell in love with this country and I might come back here for a vacation later this year” – Delicious Orie (+92 kg) of Great Britain, gold medalist at the European Games in Krakow, which ended today, said just after leaving the ring.

“Organizationally, everything looked really very good. I didn’t lose the semifinal fight, but the judges chose the other fighter. I rate my performance at this competition as very good. I still have two more qualifiers for the Olympics ahead of me, so I will continue to train hard to start in Paris. I am confident that I will succeed. I was certainly better than the Irish representative, who won the whole tournament here, but what goes around comes around. We will meet again, this time in Paris at the Olympic Games” – said Elzbieta Wojcik (POL), bronze medalist in the 75 kilogram weight class.

“This gold medal around my neck is the cherry on the cake. Coming here I had three goals in my mind. First, I wanted to get an Olympic qualification, second to win a gold medal, and third to inspire young people and be an example for them. If you really want something and dedicate yourself, you can achieve anything. I started training boxing at the age of eighteen, and now I’m back with a gold medal from the European Games, and next year I will compete at the Olympic Games. This tournament was great, and the people were amazing. I felt their support all the time and had everything I needed. I’ve already been to Poland for another tournament a few months ago and I loved the country. I do not rule out that at the end of the year I will return here again, this time for a vacation. And those mountains all around, what great views…. Now I need some rest, but I’m going back to hard work right away. I want to achieve as much as I can. This tournament was very necessary for me, because I fought five fights, with different fighters, with different styles, and gained a lot of experience. I needed this, because once I compete at the Paris Olympics, there will only be the elite super heavyweights there. Winning here in Nowy Targ also gave me confidence” – said Delicious Orie (GBR), gold medalist at the European Games in the super heavyweight division.

“This is a special birthday and a special gift I gave myself. I listened to my coach’s advice and it worked out well for me” – said in turn Aoife O’Rourke (IRL), gold medalist at 75 kilograms, who defeated the aforementioned Wojcik in the semifinals.
