Eight teams from six countries qualified for the semi-finals of the beach handball tournament at the 3rd European Games Krakow-Malopolska 2023.

The quarter-finals were an unforgettable spectacle. Fans witnessed fierce rivalry especially in the men’s tournament – as all four matches were decided in shoot-outs. The hosts, the Poles, were unlucky here, as they lost to the European champions, Hungary, after a great fight.

Polish women’s handball players also dropped out of the race for the medals. The home team, like their colleagues, lost to the European champions, Germany. “They were a level better than us. We failed this match completely,” said Iwona Niedźwiedź after the 0:2 defeat.

A big surprise came from the players of the Portuguese national team, who, after three defeats in the group stage, won against the previously unbeaten Croatians. The Dutch, who were the only team to record three wins in the group stage of the women’s tournament, also dropped out of the quarter-finals.

Thursday’s matches will determine the medallists of both tournaments. The competition will start at 10:00.
