Kellie Harrington: It was a great time spent in Poland
Kellie Harrington – World Championships gold medalist (2018) and Olympic gold medalist (2020), today added to her collection the gold medal of the European Games in the 60 kilogram weight class.
“It was a wonderful time spent in Poland. All the time my family was here with me. I like having them with me, then I don’t feel pressure. Every time I hit, I heard cheers from the stands. This gave me extra support, which I felt throughout the tournament. It drove me hard.” – said the Irish representative at a press conference after the gold medal fight.
“We had a very good preparation. So far I haven’t had a gold medal from this event. Four years ago I had to give up the semifinal bout due to injury. Now I could feel the taste of victory, and all in front of family and friends”.
Harrington was not only satisfied with her victory, but also with the conditions created for her by the organizers of the European Games.
“I’m really satisfied. The hotel conditions were very good, the food was tasty, and when you have such conditions, you can only focus on the fights. Everything was buttoned up to the last button” – Harrington added.
