The most interesting day of the 2023 European Games boxing tournament so far is behind us, with the quarterfinal fights tomorrow.

In the women’s competition in the heaviest category (75 kg), Irina Schoenberger of Germany and Elzbieta Wojcik of Poland are looking good. On the other hand in the lightest weight (50 kg) Natalia Rok from Poland. Rok has already won her second fight and in the quarterfinals she will meet Buse Naz Cakiroglu (TUR), with whom she lost in the quarterfinals of the European Championships last year.

Among the men in the 57 kilogram weight class, Roland Veres (HUN), Jose Quiles (ESP) and the Cuban representing Bulgaria Javier Ibanez Diaz show high form.

In the 71 kilogram category, a good fight was given by Eskerkhan Madiev (GEO) and Sarkhan Aliyev (AZE). The first round was won by Aliyev, the second by Madiev and everything was decided in the last three minutes. After the final gong, the judges indicated Aliyev’s victory by a 3:2 ratio. Tomorrow his rival in the quarterfinals will be Makan-Vie Traore (FRA), who today easily defeated his rival from Croatia.

Noteworthy are two representatives of Denmark – Frederik Lundgaard Jensem (57 kg) and Nikolai Terteryan (71 kg). Today they confidently won their fights and are strong candidates to win a medal.

In the super heavyweight division, after the dullness of Sunday, today we saw three excellent fights. Ayoub Ghadfa (ESP) defeated Dmytro Lovchynskyi (UKR), and Nelvie Tiafack won over Djamili Aboudou Moindze (FRA). Now Ghadfa and Tiafack will meet in the quarterfinals. Last year they fought in the final of the European Championships and the German representative turned out to be better. In the evening session, the most interesting spectacle was created by Davit Chaloyan (ARM) and Martin Pinc (CZE). Chaloyan won high on points, but was counted out in the first round. Jonas Jazevicius (LTU) already won his fight in the first round and tomorrow his opponent will be Delicious Orie (GBR).
